The MEDPOR Pterional Implant, developed with Dr. Murali Guthikonda of the Detroit Medical Center, Wayne State University, was designed specifically to fill the hollow resulting after a pterional craniotomy during neurosurgical procedures. Originally, Dr. Guthikonda used the MEDPOR TF Implant for this application, (but felt that a smaller, more appropriately contoured implant would require less intraoperative sculpting and be easier and faster to utilize during the closing stages of his procedures.

In this video, Dr. Robert Wallace, Chief of Plastic Surgery, University of Tennessee College of Medicine, discusses his use of a MEDPOR Customized Implant to correct a large cranial defect. Dr. Wallace has over eight years experience using MEDPOR Surgical Implants in various cranial reconstruction applications that include both preformed and customized implants.
